World of Work
Preparing students for life beyond school involves more than just academic excellence. In a world where change is happening at an unprecedented pace, there’s an ever-growing need to develop the skills required in the working environment and the knowledge to make informed career choices. At NBH Hampstead Senior School, we strive to bridge this gap by equipping our students with the tools and insights needed to confidently navigate their future paths through a variety of events and opportunities.
The World of Work programme, in which all Year 10 students partake, aims to inform and inspire students to think about their career paths as they begin to consider A-Level options. It also helps them develop skills needed for the workplace, such as CV writing, interview and presentation techniques. Students learn to consolidate their knowledge through collaborative skill-building lessons focused on Life Skills and Oracy, as well as an independent research project and presentation.
In addition, our students attend career talks delivered by industry experts. The World of Work talks have become a popular and essential part of our programme, featuring professionals from fields as diverse as Medicine and Finance, TV and Architecture. By bringing in experts to share their career journeys, challenges, and successes, our students gain a deeper understanding of the varied and interesting routes into these positions and are encouraged to think outside the box.
Recent talks have introduced our students to the world of genetic research, specifically groundbreaking research in genome sequencing and autoimmune diseases, screenwriting, and low carbon industrial strategy.
Prior to GCSE and to support students making informed subject choices, our Year 9 Careers Fair sees students engage with industry professionals and learn more about a broad range of professions in everything from the environmental sector to financial services.
