A rich and rounded curriculum
At NBH Hampstead Senior School, our curriculum is rich, rounded and designed specifically to support our students in becoming independent, lifelong learners.
Our vision is for pupils to be able to pursue their personal academic interests through a relevant, engaging and appropriately challenging curriculum. While academically rigorous, our curriculum fosters a breadth of character in our students which, together with a varied skillset, prepares them for higher education and the world of work.
We provide a wide range of specialist subject options in addition to the core academic subjects, and every year group further benefits from our timetabled weekly enrichment programme.
*Beginning with French or Spanish in Year 7, with pupils taking a second modern foreign language from Year 8 or continuing with Latin.
KEY STAGE 4
GCSE
In Years 10 and 11 (ages 14-16), pupils select three GCSE subjects of their choice to study alongside the compulsory subjects of English (Language and Literature), Maths, Combined Science, and one additional language. They also have compulsory weekly Enrichment, P.E. and PSHE sessions but are not examined in these subjects, unless they have selected P.E. as one of their three GCSE options.
Students who wish to take PE as a GCSE subject choice will need to select it as one of their three GCSE option choices.
The core curriculum is complemented by a selection of wider learning options:
Duke of Edinburgh's Award (optional)
Enrichment
Graded Music Exams (optional)
LAMDA (optional)
PSHE
Physical Education
*Courses may vary in availability each year depending on uptake.
ENRICHMENT
Character development within the curriculum
Our timetabled character development programme, known as Enrichment, helps students build resilience, problem-solving abilities, communication and teamwork skills. We dedicate one lesson per week to our enrichment programme and each term, pupils choose from an exhaustive list of around 25 activities. By the end of Year 9, students have completed 18 different activities designed to push them out of their comfort zones and develop these crucial skills.
Elements of the programme include but are not limited to East Asian Cultures, Charity Initiatives, Philosophy, History Trail, Engineering, Sustainability, Sports Leadership, Chess, and Eloquence. These activities nurture academic excellence and character development within a global perspective.
Students describe the programme as "creative, collaborative, and different from the day-to-day. It is a way to learn new skills and expand your mind."
