An extensive extra-curricular offering.

In line with our commitment to inspiring each child to find their 'True North', we offer a rich and varied extra-curricular programme where pupils are able to try a whole host of activities. Whether they have a passion for film-making or football, street dance or singing, we are well-prepared to nurture every pupils' talents and set them on their own, individual path to success.

Our ever-popular sports clubs include some traditional activities as well as those you may not expect, with our Autumn Term selection comprising of fencing, street dance, football, karate and more. With clubs changing every term, there is a chance to improve at familiar sports and pick up new ones throughout the academic year.

The artistic talents within the school continue outside of the classroom curriculum, with popular activities including film-making, textiles, knitting, choir and creative writing, to name but a few. Language clubs run each term, including in languages not taught on the curriculum, as do STEM-based clubs, such as the Mother Nature Science club and Archimake.

With an impressive array of activities that encourage children to find and develop new skills, our extra-curricular provision speaks to our commitment to deliver a diverse and character-building education.

Music

An orchestra, multiple choirs and several brass bands ensure our musical talent is nurtured and showcased throughout the school. As well as the various groups available to join, pupils benefit from one-to-one music lessons with our expert peripatetic teachers in string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. These include: Cello, Clarinet, Flute, French Horn, Guitar, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet and Violin. Double-bass, Oboe, Tuba and Viola are also played in the school orchestra.

Where appropriate, pupils work towards graded examinations and achieve exceptionally well in their LAMDA exams. Whilst aiding brain development, improving memory and inspiring creativity with regular music lessons, we also host a variety of concerts and performances throughout the year, which grow children’s confidence and wow audiences of family and friends.

Climate Change Committee

Our environmental and sustainability council is hugely popular with NBH Prep School pupils, who follow the Earthshot Prize programme set up by Prince William and The Royal Foundation. Pupils champion positive action in the environmental space at school and beyond, harnessing their love and respect for nature and driving initiatives to make our staff and student body as environmentally friendly as possible.

As well as working on the five Earthshots – Protect & Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World, Fix Our Climate – the Climate Change Committee partake in various local, national and global initiatives to protect our planet. Sub-groups of the Climate Change Committee provide further opportunity for pupils to garden and practice mindfulness in the great outdoors.

Digital Newspaper Club

Our student newspaper club take an editorial approach to finding their True North, producing their very own digital magazine. ‘News Bridge House’ reports on everything from politics to school life and pupils enjoy collating jokes, games and riddles as well as creative pieces and teacher interviews.

Martial Arts

Fencing and Karate are particularly popular martial arts here at North Bridge House, providing pupils with a complete body and mind workout. Their ancient origins instil traditional values and leadership qualities, including self-discipline, good manners, sportsmanship and respect. With a strong focus on footwork and tactics, both Fencing and Karate develop students’ physical and mental agility, improving all-round endurance.

Mandarin

Mandarin is taught as a curricular subject for Years 6-8 and so the idea of Mandarin club is to offer children in Years 3-5 the chance to learn the language too. Chinese culture is taught through a range of different activities, and pupils learn how to speak Mandarin within topics that relate to daily life. This is a great opportunity for children to become familiar with Mandarin ahead of studying it on the curriculum, as well as to experience and enjoy learning a new language.

Mother Nature Science

Mother Nature Science club helps children to better understand the world around them. With new topics every term, we explore a wide variety of scientific concepts across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which are linked to the National Curriculum and supplement primary STEM learning. During each fun and educational weekly one hour session, children observe an exciting demonstration, enquire about the science behind it and then engage in hands-on activity to confirm their findings.

Parents also receive a topic sheet after every session informing them of what their child has done and how they can continue the science at home. These sessions are designed to inspire children of all abilities to develop a love of science both in and out of school.

Through the many trips and visits undertaken and the very broad-ranging extra-curricular programme, in which the majority of pupils take part; the educational experiences of pupils are significantly enhanced.

Wraparound Care

Teatime Club.

Teatime club is available from 5:00-6:00pm, Monday – Thursday, and children can simply drop-in as and when parents need after school care on an ad hoc basis. Teamtime club is charged at £10 a session and children are provided with a healthy, light evening tea.
